… barn stories: rocky
Rocky is the newest addition to the farm. He is a big thoroughbred and his first job on the farm is to become Iggy’s new friend over the fence lines, then pasture buddy this summer.
Coming to a new place is a big deal for horses, they make life long friends and are leaving them. They are very sensitive and notice everything around them. Sounds, building placement, landscape, new animals (sheep) can be scary. The train that runs by our farm was a new one for Rocky and he was quite worried about it until he saw the other horses were OK.
When he first arrived I thought “what a quiet gentleman”. Yesterday though, the newness of the farm began to wear off and I saw a little personality peak through. This morning he definitely showed himself as I was taking pictures and he was waiting for his breakfast of hay, he started sticking his tongue out to let me know he was hungry…..
There is a lot of thinking that goes on between horse ears, I think much more than we humans are aware of!!
Welcome Rocky to Barn Stories!
